The Temple of Harmony: A new architectural history of St Cecilia's Hall, Edinburgh, tops our sales list.

Published in late November 2011, it is by Joe Rock, Martin Hillman and Antonia J Bunch. It takes a detailed look at the Edinburgh Musical Society, for which the hall was built, public music in Edinburgh, and the Incorporation of Wrights and Masons, which supervised the city's building trade. It describes the details of the hall's construction, decoration and improvement. It then brings the story up to date the -- hall was sold, used by the Masonic Lodge, became a church and a school, then a dance hall in the 1930s to the 1950s. The University of Edinburgh restored it to its original use in the 1960s.

We also sell a guide to all the instruments in the collection, a book of keyboard pieces by 18th century composers and arrangers, and CDs, including three of instruments from the collection. For the more technically minded, we have John Barnes's book Making a Spinet by Traditional Methods, technical drawings and photographs of instruments in the collection, plus data sheets.

Most items are on sale at the hall during opening hours, and by mail order. Our price list gives details.

When ordering, please include a telephone number with other delivery details.

All payments must be in sterling. Cheques or international money orders should be made out to the Friends of St Cecilia's Hall.

If you wish to transfer money electronically through your bank, or to pay by credit card, please write for details.

For small items, overseas buyers with access to sterling banknotes, US dollars or euros might like to consider the banknote gamble. If necessary, convert the price of the items you are ordering into dollars or euros and round the amount up to the nearest five dollars or euros. Wrap the banknotes well in your order. This method is, of course, at your own risk but so far it has always worked.
