Chemical Engineering 1

Work out for yourself the pros and cons of hydrogen cars!!

The following exercises

  • appraise the energy efficiency of some prototypes of hydrogen powered cars (as of 2007).
  • do so in a much more realistic way than was presented in the course.
  • evaluate the carbon dioxide emissions associated with these vehicles depending on how the hydrogen is obtained.
  • consider the amount of wind energy required and the equivalent number and power ratings of wind turbines that would be required in order to supply a refuelling station.

    The solutions are presented here.

These exercises are not examinable materials, but they make full use of the skills learnt during the course, and they show the real usefulness of these skills applied to real life situations.
