This is the homepage of Dr Ian Silverwood, a catalytic chemist recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh. It was originally started as a place to put various things which I kept losing and developed from there into a place to advertise my research, and share photos with friends and family.
I completed my PhD in 2006, concerning the development of miniature reactor cells to allow IR spectroscopy of catalytic reactions under microwave heated conditions. Prior to this I obtained an MSc investigating the relationship between structure and function for gold/iron oxide catalysts. More information on this research can be found on my science page, or in my PhD or MSc theses. In October 2007 I took up a new position at the University of Glasgow. This website is unlikely to be updated, but the new project has its own site here.
