Exercise 2: Simple Processes
Devise suitable control schemes for the following
processes.
Process 1
A reactor product stream goes into an open atmospheric storage tank
where it is analysed continuously. On the basis of this analysis, the
amount of material recycled back to the reactor is adjusted.
The remainder is sent on to to final product distillation.
Process 2
A centrifugal gas compressor must be operated with a certain minimum
flowrate, otherwise it will surge. This is generally achieved by
bypassing gas from the compressor discharge back to inlet suction. It
is also necessary to control the pressure from the compressor system to
downstream equipment.
Process 3
A furnace operating at ambient pressure is fed with natural gas from
a high pressure main and air via a blower. It is necessary to control
the temperature of the flame and the composition of the flue gas.
