Section 5.1: Aims and Objectives
Aims
- To introduce general concepts of optimisation
- To describe methods for single variable continuous optimisation
- To explain the occurrence of different classes of optimisation problem
- To outline the principles of methods used for these different problems
- To provide experience in the identification and formulation
of optimisation problems
- To provide experience in the use of some currently
available optimisers
Objectives
After completing this module you should be able to:
- Understand the difference between an optimisation and simulation
problem
- Identify the class to which an optimisation problem belongs
- Discuss the formulation and solution of an optimisation
problem intelligently with an specialist
- Use an optimisation model or package effectively
