To introduce general concepts of optimisation
To describe methods for single variable continuous optimisation
To explain the occurrence of different classes of optimisation problem
To outline the principles of methods used for these different problems
To provide experience in the identification and formulation of optimisation problems
To provide experience in the use of some currently available optimisers

After completing this module you should be able to:

Understand the difference between an optimisation and simulation problem

Discuss the formulation and solution of an optimisation problem intelligently with an specialist
Use an optimisation model or package effectively
