A Scenario for the UK

• Use currrent cereal and oilseed byproduct straw as co-fuel with coal for power generation.
  This would produce > 5 Mte/yr, nearly 10% of energy used for transport.

• Co-fire plastic and cardboard waste with coal.
  30x10⁶te of UK waste could produce ~3.5 Mte/yr.

• Reduce use of gas for power generation; convert public transport and fleet vehicles to CNG.

• If oilseeds are grown, blend oil with petroleum diesel or add to refinery hydrocracker stream.
  Avoids the production of unsaleable glycerol.

• Don't make ethanol!
  Buy it from Brazil? But worry about the rainforest...

• Use less!
  Conservation payoff is typically ten times greater than replacement.
